“A mind map is a diagram used to represent words, ideas, tasks, or other items linked to and arranged around a central key word or idea”. Mind mapping software allows users to brainstorm and visualize ideas quickly and easily. Project teams are more productive, accelerate project planning and facilitate collaboration. This presentation presents how successful project teams utilize mind mapping software to brainstorm project scope, develop the WBS, draft proposal framework, and leverage scope planning to create project planning documents. The presentation provides an introduction to mind mapping and includes examples and applications of mind mapping to develop project planning documents.

Mr. James Franklin is a Program Manager with the Shaw Group in San Diego, Ca. He is a PMP with over 27 years of environmental and infrastructure project experience. As a Program Manager, he has managed over $500M of Government contracts in California. Mr. Franklin is using mind mapping software to plan projects and manage change orders. He is an instructor at UCSD Extension Program and teaches mind mapping techniques to plan projects. Mr. Franklin actively participates in the Project Management Institute (PMI) San Diego Chapter and hosts the PMI San Diego Career Breakfast Meeting.
